Every year, the Alumni Association gives out scholarships to deserving UL Lafayette students, with $144,000 awarded to 72 students this year. These scholarships have had a significant impact on former recipients as well. Michael Wolf and Annie Perret are past scholarship recipients who say that receiving their scholarships significantly impacted their UL Lafayette experience.
Wolf (’18) is an assurance senior at Postlewaite & Netterville. As a student, he initially heard about the Alumni Association scholarship from his fraternity. When he found out he was named one of the scholarship recipients, he was shocked and excited. “It helped out a great deal,” said Wolf. Receiving this scholarship helped Wolf to graduate from college debt-free. Originally from Lafayette, Wolf grew up supporting the University. Therefore, when he received the Alumni Association scholarship, it meant something more to him.
Perret (’16) works as the foundation coordinator at LHC Group. As a student, Perret was the president of the Association of Future Alumni, and she was very involved with the University. When she received the scholarship, Perret was thrilled. “I finally realized that my four years of studying and involvement on campus and the pride that I had for the University had paid off,” said Perret.
As an alumna, Perret thinks it’s important to give back to the Alumni Association that gave so much to her. That’s why she is a proud Alumni Loyalty Fund donor. “I think it’s so important to give back to the Alumni Association because it helps to further the interest of the University while also providing fellowship among alumni,” said Perret.
Not only is Perret passionate about giving back, but she is also passionate about scholarships continuing to go to deserving students. “These scholarships provide financial relief to students who work hard while they’re in college,” said Perret. Once these students graduate and go out into the world, Perret hopes that they’ll continue to make an impact by giving back to the University that gave them so much. She feels grateful for everything that UL Lafayette has given her. “The University [has] provided more for me than I could ever repay it,” said Perret.
The Alumni Association’s scholarship program would not be possible without the continuous help of donors and supporters. If you’re interested in contributing to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, you can make a gift directly or consider purchasing a UL Lafayette specialty license plate. A portion of all Louisiana license plate proceeds benefits Alumni Association scholarships. With your help, the Alumni Association can continue to make a difference in current and future UL Lafayette students’ lives.
